Pi Network has introduced new decentralized finance (DeFi) capabilities, including a decentralized exchange (DEX) and an automated market maker (AMM), on its testnet, according to a September 30 statement. The new tools create a secure environment for developers to experiment with token swaps, liquidity pools, and other DeFi applications without risk to the mainnet.
The testnet rollout comes as the Pi Coin faces market difficulties, having recently dropped to an all-time low of $0.2234 before modestly recovering.
To facilitate testing of the new DEX and AMM, Pi Network is now allowing developers to mint test tokens directly on the Testnet. However, the creation of Mainnet tokens remains restricted until formal guidelines are published. The Pi Core Team stated that future rules will prioritize utility-driven products that support real-world applications and long-term sustainability, moving away from speculative assets.
The network is emphasizing the creation of tokens that power apps, services, and community participation—a strategy that contrasts with the temporary nature of many memecoins, which often lack meaningful use cases.
