An early Bitcoin investor has moved their long-dormant cryptocurrency stash, valued at over $35 million, after more than a decade of inactivity.
On Friday, a Bitcoin wallet that had been untouched since 2013 suddenly became active, according to blockchain data tracked by Whale Alert. The wallet’s owner, who initially purchased 306 BTC for about $23,700, split the holdings into two new wallets. At today’s price of around $115,200 per Bitcoin, the original investment has grown by nearly 1,500 times.
The transfer saw 200 BTC sent to one new address and 106 BTC to another. Neither of the receiving wallets had any prior transaction history, and the owners of all the wallets remain anonymous.
This recent reactivation is part of a growing trend of early Bitcoin adopters moving their large holdings. On July 23, a dormant wallet moved $1.26 billion worth of BTC. The following day, a wallet that had been inactive since 2011 transferred $460 million in Bitcoin.
Analysts suggest these movements could be a sign that some early investors are cashing out as Bitcoin’s price remains near its all-time high of approximately $123,000.
