BitGo Europe GmbH, a subsidiary of the digital asset custodian BitGo, has received a license extension from Germany’s Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) to provide regulated crypto trading services across Europe.
The new approval builds on BitGo Europe’s existing BaFin license, which was granted in November 2023 for regulated custody services. With this extension, the company can now offer institutional clients a comprehensive platform for both over-the-counter (OTC) and electronic trading of thousands of digital assets and stablecoins. This allows investors to access deep liquidity while keeping their assets in secure, MiCA-compliant cold storage.
According to Brett Reeves, Head of European Sales and Go Network at BitGo, this development is a “game-changer” for institutions looking to operate safely and efficiently in the digital asset market. “By combining our institutional-grade custody solution with seamless, high-performance execution, clients will now be able to access deep liquidity with the peace of mind that their assets will remain in cold storage under MiCA-compliant, regulated custody,” Reeves said.
The license extension, combined with BitGo’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) license, positions the company as one of a small group of European providers offering a full suite of regulated services, including custody, staking, and trading, all under a single platform. This move puts BitGo in direct competition with other major players in the region like Coinbase and Kraken.
