The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is broadening its “Crypto Sprint” initiative, a move aimed at implementing a recent report from the President’s Working Group on Digital Asset Markets.
In a statement released Thursday, CFTC Acting Chair Caroline Pham announced the agency will now seek public feedback on all remaining recommendations from the report. The deadline for comments is October 20, 2025.
This new phase follows the initial stage of the initiative, which began on August 4 and focused on enabling the trading of spot crypto assets on registered futures exchanges.
Pham stated the public feedback will assist the CFTC in “carefully considering relevant issues for leveraged, margined or financed retail trading on a CFTC-registered exchange as we implement the President’s directive.”
The next steps for the initiative are expected to go beyond spot crypto trading and address other recommendations from the working group’s report, which could include oversight on registration, custody, trading, and recordkeeping. This effort also involves coordination with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which launched its own “Project Crypto” initiative last month.
Earlier this week, SEC Chair Paul Atkins stated that he believes very few crypto tokens are securities. He emphasized the goal of creating a regulatory framework that encourages innovation within the digital asset market.
