Trump Media Investors Face $2.2 Billion In Losses As Donald Trump Retains $460 Million Stake

Outside investors in Trump Media & Technology Group have absorbed more than $2.2 billion in cumulative losses as the stock plunged to historic lows, according to a financial analysis. The steep downturn has hit retail shareholders, many of whom are devoted political supporters of Donald Trump, while the president continues to hold a 114.75 million-share stake currently valued at roughly $460 million. Securities filings show the Trump family contributed little to none of their own cash to launch the venture, receiving substantial equity as part of its 2024 merger with Digital World Acquisition Corp, Reuters reported.

The company’s shares sank as Truth Social struggled to attract new users and burned through operating capital. Trump Media’s annual revenue has remained largely flat at roughly $4 million over the past three years. Compounding the slump, the firm spent over $200 million developing a streaming service that yielded only $630,000 in revenue through mid-2026, while ill-timed investments in cryptocurrencies suffered sharp declines. Share prices fell another 32% following recent midterm election results that saw Democrats reclaim control of both congressional chambers.

Retail buyers who invested substantial portions of their personal savings now face losses exceeding 80%. Several shareholders expressed deep disappointment that company insiders and the Trump family preserved substantial paper wealth while ordinary investors suffered severe financial hits. While some retail holders alleged market manipulation and short selling, market data revealed short interest remains below average for comparable firms, with no evidence of improper trading.

Trump Media disputed the loss estimates, labeling the methodology biased and asserting that public market dynamics make calculating individual investor performance impossible. The company emphasized that it maintains a strong balance sheet and intends to generate shareholder value through future initiatives, including a proposed merger with nuclear fusion firm TAE Technologies.
